What the Shopify Agentic plan is

Verbatim from Shopify: 'The Agentic plan is a free subscription plan. When customers complete their purchase in an AI channel's Shopify-powered built-in checkout, you pay only Shopify Payments fees or third-party transaction fees.' Designed for merchants not currently using Shopify — i.e., businesses on legacy or custom platforms that want AI-channel reach without migrating their storefront.

The plan is documented on the help-center page1 and the marketing page at shopify.com/agentic-plan2. The tagline on the marketing page is verbatim: 'Only pay when your products sell. No monthly fee.'

What the plan includes

Three included capabilities per Shopify's documentation. Add products to Shopify Catalog. Sell on agentic storefronts without a Shopify online store. Sell on the Shop channel. That's the entirety of the plan's commerce surface — three syndication and discovery channels, no online store of your own.

  • Catalog inclusion — your products appear in Shopify Catalog with the same data quality requirements as full Shopify stores.
  • Agentic storefronts — your products surface in ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity per Catalog distribution.
  • Shop channel — your products are discoverable in the Shop consumer app.

An enterprise variant is available on request: unlimited staff, Combined Listings, carrier-calculated shipping, enhanced API access. The retail merchant case for the plan is the standard tier.

What the plan does NOT include

Five exclusions per Shopify: Online Store (no Shopify-hosted storefront), Shopify Messaging (no merchant chat app), gift cards, manually-created orders, and Shop post-purchase offers. The plan is intentionally narrow — it's the AI-channel-only sleeve, not a Shopify-lite.

Who the plan is for

Merchants on Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, custom-built ecommerce, or any non-Shopify stack who want AI-channel exposure without rebuilding their storefront. The plan gives them syndication into ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, and Shop while their existing storefront remains the canonical store.

Agentic-plan stores must include an external product URL on every product5 — that's how the AI channel deep-links back to the existing storefront when a buyer in ChatGPT (the discovery-focused referrer) taps a product card. The external product URL article walks the field.

The pricing model

Zero subscription fee. The plan charges Shopify Payments fees on direct-checkout sales (Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Shop) or third-party transaction fees if the merchant uses a non-Shopify processor. There is no per-product fee, no listing fee, no platform fee. Pure transaction-based.

Per Shopify1: 'When customers complete their purchase in an AI channel's Shopify-powered built-in checkout, you pay only Shopify Payments fees or third-party transaction fees.' For ChatGPT (referrer model), the buyer completes on the merchant's existing storefront, so no Shopify Payments touch happens — the merchant pays only their existing processor's rates.
