§ 01 The plan
What the Shopify Agentic plan is — and isn't
The Agentic plan is verbatim 'a free subscription plan. When customers complete their purchase in an AI channel's Shopify-powered built-in checkout, you pay only Shopify Payments fees or third-party transaction fees.' It is designed for merchants who currently sell elsewhere (their own platform, a marketplace, a different ecommerce system) and want to add AI-channel reach without migrating their full operation to Shopify. It is NOT a way to run a full Shopify online store for free — it does not include the Online Store, Shopify Messaging, gift cards, manually-created orders, or Shop post-purchase offers.
The Help Center plan page2 documents the inclusion list: add products to Shopify Catalog, sell on agentic storefronts without a Shopify online store, sell on the Shop channel. The exclusion list is just as important: no Online Store, no Shopify Messaging, no gift cards, no manually-created orders, no Shop post-purchase offers. Merchants who want the full Shopify experience graduate to Basic plan or higher; merchants who specifically want AI-channel reach as an addition to their existing infrastructure stay on Agentic plan.
§ 02 Who fits
Who the Agentic plan fits
Four merchant profiles fit the Agentic plan cleanly. Established brands on legacy platforms (BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Magento, custom builds) who want to test AI-channel sales before committing to a full Shopify migration. Marketplace-first sellers (primarily Amazon, Etsy, eBay) who want a path to direct AI-channel sales without standing up their own DTC infrastructure. Digital-product creators with existing distribution (Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, their own site) who want AI-channel reach as an additional discovery surface. Wholesalers or B2B operations exploring DTC who want to validate AI-channel appetite before investing in a full storefront.
The unifying pattern: each profile has existing fulfillment, payment, and customer-relationship infrastructure that the Agentic plan does not duplicate. The plan adds AI-channel discoverability and (where the AI channel supports it) a Shopify-powered checkout inside the AI conversation. The merchant keeps the post-purchase relationship through their existing channels. This is fundamentally different from the standard Shopify model where the merchant owns the storefront end-to-end.
§ 03 External URL
The External product URL field — the bridge to your existing site
The Shopify Catalog optimization doc lists 'External product URL' as one of the seven AI-readable fields, with the explicit note that the field applies to Shopify Agentic plan stores. The field tells AI channels where to deep-link the buyer for completion when the Shopify-powered checkout is not used — typically the buyer's existing PDP on the merchant's primary platform, or a Gumroad / Lemon Squeezy / external page for digital products.
The Catalog requirements doc7 states that Agentic plan stores must include the External product URL on every product as a baseline eligibility condition. The install populates External product URL per SKU during onboarding — pointing each Shopify Catalog product to the corresponding URL on the merchant's primary platform. ChatGPT is documented as a 'discovery-focused referrer platform'5 where customers complete purchases on the merchant's store via in-app browser or new tab; other channels support direct purchasing via Shopify-powered checkout inside the AI conversation.
§ 04 What you get
What you get on the Agentic plan
The plan inclusions are specific. Add products to Shopify Catalog (the global product feed AI channels consume). Sell on agentic storefronts (the Shopify-powered AI-channel commerce surface). Sell on the Shop channel (Shopify's own consumer-facing app). The dedicated Agentic Storefronts admin page (added May 11, 2026) at admin.shopify.com/agentic tracks AI channel performance, shows which queries the products rank for, and recommends product-data improvements.
The Agentic Storefronts admin3 is the visibility layer for Agentic-only merchants. Performance tracking across ChatGPT, Shop, Copilot, and the other named channels. Query-ranking detail showing what buyers are asking the AI engines and how the merchant's products surface. Product-data recommendations highlighting fields the engines are weighting that the merchant has under-populated. The Agentic plan gets the same dedicated admin page that full-plan merchants get; the difference is that the Agentic merchant doesn't also get the Online Store admin.
§ 05 What you give up
What you give up vs full Shopify
The Agentic plan trade-offs are explicit. No Online Store means no DTC web storefront on the Shopify domain — buyers cannot land on a Shopify-hosted page for the brand. No Shopify Messaging means no native customer messaging through Shopify Inbox. No gift cards means no Shopify-issued gift cards (third-party apps may add this on full plans). No manually-created orders means the merchant cannot create an order in the Shopify admin for a customer who reaches out directly. No Shop post-purchase offers means the post-purchase upsell surface in the Shop app isn't available.
The Help Center plan page2 enumerates the exclusions. For most Agentic-only merchants, the trade-offs are acceptable because the existing platform handles those functions — DTC storefront on the primary platform, customer messaging through the existing CRM, gift cards through the existing system, manual orders handled outside Shopify, post-purchase upsells through the existing email or transactional flows. The Agentic plan is the AI-channel addition layer, not the operational backbone.
§ 06 The install
What an Agentic-only install actually changes
The Agentic-only install ships a subset of the 12 standard deliverables — Catalog audit, PDP rewrites (for the data in Shopify Catalog), schema (emitted via the Catalog feed; no Shopify theme involved), policies (populated through Shopify admin even without an Online Store), Knowledge Base FAQs (available on Agentic plan), AI prompt tests, 30-day visibility report. The deliverables that don't apply: robots.txt.liquid (no Shopify storefront to host robots.txt), theme-level schema (no theme), and Shopify-hosted policy pages (policies exist as metafields and admin records, not as published pages).
The install's Agentic-only audit verifies External product URL is populated on every SKU6, that each URL resolves to a live PDP on the merchant's primary platform, that the Catalog product data matches the primary-platform PDP data (consistency across platforms is an AI-citation signal), and that the AI channel publishing is active in the Agentic Storefronts admin4. The 30-day visibility report tracks AI-channel citation specifically — ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Shop app — and measures the merchant's appearance in the AI-channel recommendation surface for the relevant product queries.
If your existing primary platform is delivering DTC and you want to add AI-channel reach without migrating, ShopifyRanked installs the Agentic-only setup in 7 days for $499. The install includes the External product URL configuration per SKU, the Catalog field population for the seven AI-readable fields, the Knowledge Base FAQ pipeline, and the 30-day visibility report tracking AI-channel performance against your baseline.
